Being a Tech Guy

Props to Mary for pointing this out to me...

By the way...

I started using Twitter a while back so I could have status updates on this blog (mostly for my mother.... since my blogging frequency dropped dramatically) and to sync with Facebook. But it sucks! It's always down. WTF?

Back to the Big House

It's been a little over a year since I left Ann Arbor - and I haven't been back since. No more game days. No more easily available Reissdorf Kolsch. No more Ashley's. Unacceptable.

So in the first week of September, Falon will join me on my inaugural trip back to U of M as an alum. I still haven't figured out where we'll stay (any volunteers?), nor have I picked up any tickets to the Miami game that weekend. But I am ready for some stilton cheese fries and a tall Reissdorf.

Go blue.

Staying Busy

It's no surprise - life has been keeping me busy. I used to update this blog once every two days (or so). Now, I'm lucky if I find a moment to do it once a month. The culprits:

Work: No question about it, this has been the biggest shift for me in the past 3 months. Nowadays I find myself so wiped out from work, opening my computer to blog is about the last thing on my mind in the evening or on the weekends. It probably would be out of the question right now as well, if I weren't sitting in one of the massage chairs at Google! (Ha!) Now, I'm not saying that I'm working banker hours or anything like that - there's just more of a get 'er done attitude on my new team.

Biking: I traded in my hipster single speed and picked up a full-fledged road bike the other week. I've started exercising with it, but am embarrassingly out of shape (e.g. senior citizens frequently pass me as I huff and puff during a climb). I'm keeping track of all of my rides and eventually want to start biking to and from work once a week (likely splitting those two commutes over different days).

Home improvements: Now that our annual lease is up (and the month-to-month lease has kicked in), we figured it was time to finally move in..... Not really strategic, I know. We've cleaned up some cords, put the Independence tree into storage (formerly the spring tree, the Easter tree, the Valentine's tree, the New Year's tree, and the Christmas tree), and sacked up and bought a Mac Mini (woo hoo!). Now that bad ass projector is powered by a bad ass computer accessible from all of our iPhones, computers, and toilets (in beta!).

Crying over the stock market: I'm kidding. But seriously. While I haven't made any plays on the market, I did pick up two nifty tools that make investing a little more fun. One is the sweet heatmap from finviz.com and the other is covestor.com. Not too shabby! Unlike GE's recent performance (and Apple's today! ick!).

Magazine deals: Yearly subscriptions to five magazines for $30 (including Wired, Fast Company, .... not sure what else yet); plopping down and reading on the couch has its appeal.

All in all, I regret not having the drive to post more, but I like where I'm at.
